WEEK SIX - FINAL WEEK OF REGULAR SEASON RESULTS & SCORERS

GAME OF THE WEEK

Dragons v Mavericks

The Bowl game lineups had been already decided, but there was still the matter of deciding home teams for the ties and also the opportunity in both games for the teams to gain a psychological advantage over each other as these were both dress rehearsals for the silverware battle to come in a week's time.

The two teams facing each other had 1-4 records and sat at the foot of the table, but they were also packed with talent. Franchis player Teddy Hope was back for the Mavericks and their entire team was visibly boosted by this, rightly too as on the opening drive, Maksim Ivanov found Hope for the first score. The challenge was thrown to the Dragons who, on the very next drive cam back with a Duffey to Johnson passing TD converted by Elliot Duffey for two and it was an 8-6 lead to the Dragons. They then forced the Mavs to a 4 and out and with the ball in hand were driving back to try and increase their lead - but a forced pass by Duffey was picked off by the speedy Ben Remmer who ran it all the way back and with a PAT converted by an Ivanov to Loveday pass the purple ones held a 13-8 lead.

Dragons had the ball back again, but once more Remmer was there to pick off Duffey, this time taking the ball back into the Dragons half. The Dragons were shaken, but not stirred however, and Krishan Johnson stepped in to intercept Ivanov two plays later and run all the way for a pick six of his own and take back the lead 14-13 for the fire breathers. But back came the Mavericks on the very next play after the restart, Ivanov running the ball the entire length of the field to go into half time with a 20-14 lead

Into the second half and the Dragons had possession, a long drive capped off by a Duffey to Johnson score and the scores were level at 20. Back came the Mavs though, Ivanov finding Miles Loveday in the endzone for the score and the lead again. The Dragons did not want to give in though. Duffey again driving them downfield and this time it was a pass to Louis Limon to bring the teams back level at 26 each.

It looked like overtime with only 30 seconds on the clock, but in a thrilling finish and on 4th down at their own 5 yard line, Hope ran from QB the entire length of the field to score, then convert by passing to Luis Shipley and making final score 33-26 to the Mavericks..

This bodes well for an exciting second tier Bowl game between these two sides next week, both have a genuine chance of coming away with silverware.

Hawks v Wolf Pack

On the other field we saw a dominant display from the Hawks. Led by the ubiquitous Matty Cooper, he found Alfie Thompson for the opening score and although new Packer Wisdom hauled on in to keep it close in the opening minutes, Matty was towering and had a hand in four further TDs as play caller linking up with Thompson for most of them and despite a second TD for newbie Wisdom, the Hawks ground down the Wolf Pack to run out 27-13 victors and make themselves firm favourites for the Ultimate Bowl next Saturday
